What are the career prospects for interrnational students after doing MSc Accounting & Finance and ACCA from UK & how much can a fresher earn?

Check out universities like Warwick, Bristol and Bath – all have a good reputation in the accounting and finance area. Another one to look out for is Aston, which is a decidedly average to poor university for most subjects but has an excellent business school.
A fresher can expect to earn £20,000 – £25,000 as a starting salary, depending on the area in which you live. There is healthy competition for places but having an MSc from a reputable university will certainly put you in good stead for a job.

How to record partnership reports (net income) Accounting Help!! (General Journal) need guidance!?

The Levin and Motes partnership reports net income of $60,000. partner salary allowances are Levin $25,000 and Motes $20,000. No intrest allowance will be used. Any remaining income is shared 60:40 ratio.

I not sure how much of this you’re following, so let’s back up a bit.

The income statement has been completed, indicating a net income of $60,000.

You have the salary allowances correct and the division of the excess income above the salary allowance.

Also, we presume the closing entries have been completed which would indicate a credit balance in income summary of $60,000.

So:

dr income summary 60,000. (this closes income summary)
cr levin capital 34,000.
cr Motes capital 26,000.

In a partnership, the total amount of the net income is divided between the partners, according to their agreement, and each partners total portion is credited to their capital.

We are not given any drawing, Therefore, no entry is required to close their drawing accounts.

If there were drawing accounts, this would be the entry:
dr each partners capital account (reducing their capital)
cr each partners drawing account (to close)

NOTE: There may be an understanding in a partnership agreement, according to the salary allowance etc., that a cap be placed on their drawing until the final income for the year is determined. The cap might be their salary allowance or whatever their agreement consists of.

Have you ever taken Intro to Financial Accounting? How difficult is this class? Advice to succeed?

I am a senior, Major in Philosophy minor in Business Administration, and Intro to Financial Accounting as well as Business Finance are requirements for the major.

Alright, I have taken Financial Accounting.

I’m not sure exactly what the difernece is between Bus. and Fin. I think it could be the level (Bus harder) and the fact that you’re doing finaces from a basic consumer point of view. While the business is from a Bus. point of view.

Tips!!!

1) Get to know your calculator. All the formulas you need are in your menu in your TI-83 or 84.

2) Do your homework. If you get behind on your homework it’s harder. Also, the homework is great prep and help for your exams. If you haven’t done examples then you’ll do bad on exam.

3) Go to tutoring. I went and it helped!

4) Know what’s happening and why. Sure, you know the numbers but, you HAVE TO understand the logics behind the math. Know the accounting point of view.

5) Sit next to people who know what they’re doing…ask the professor questions. I talked in class to the people next to me about what was going on. That helped me because step-by-step I could ask questions about what happened and why the prof did that.

So, good luck!

ps. Business Finance I believe you do the Balance Sheet and Income statements and balancing for the whole business and expenses.

I’m a telemarketer for an accounting firm and my boss want me to stress in my pitch that we provide them with monthly financial statements and I end up losing the appointment alot the minute I tell them that ( we telemarket small business owners)

Truth is monthly financial statements are not of much value to small businesses.

Small businesses don’t have much going on in a month, they might even be able to remember every transaction they do. There’s no need for them to hire you for something they don’t even need.

You should be marketing the service to medium to big businesses. These companies are more likely to appreciate having monthly financial statements, because without those it would be difficult for the companies to monitor the transactions they do every month.

Revision of depreciation(accounting)?

A building with a cost of $1,050,000 has an estimated residual value of $420,000, has an estimated useful life of 36 years, and is depreciated by the straight-line method. (a) what is the amount of annual depreciation? (b) What is the book value at the end of the twentieth year of use? (c) If at the start of the twenty-first year it is estimated that the remaining life is 20 years and that the residual value is $300,000, what is the depreciation expense of the remaining 20 years?

a) SL Depreciation per year = (Cost – Residual)/Life = (1,050,000-420,000)/36 = $17,500 per year

b) BV = Cost – Accumulated Depr for 20 years = 1,050,000 -(20*17,500) = $700,000

c) Revised Depr = (Current BV – New Resid) / New Life = (700,000-300,000)/20 = $20,000 per year

Major differences in the job opportunities with a degree in Finance compared to a degree in Accounting?

Say to get into the insurance industry, would finance or accounting be better?

To get into the insurance industry, either would be fine. As far as job opportunities, an accounting degree would be better. An accountant can get a Financial Analyst position but a Finance Major can’t get an accounting job.
Unless you know exactly what you want to do and a finance degree would work, I would go with accounting. It leaves a lot more opportunities available.

The term “generally accepted accounting principles” has a specific meaning for accountants and auditors. The AICPA Code of Professional Conduct prohibits members from expressing an opinion or stating affirmatively that financial statements or other financial data “present fairly… in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles,” if such information contains any departures from accounting principles promulgated by a body designated by the AICPA Council to establish such principles.

The AICPA Council designated FASAB as the body that establishes accounting principles for federal entities. The AICPA’s hierarchy of generally accepted accounting principles in Statement of Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 91, The Federal GAAP Hierarchy, governs what constitutes GAAP for U.S. government reporting entities. The hierarchy lists the priority sequence of sources that an entity should look to for accounting and reporting guidance.
